The Tone Block v3 is something else! While preparing the documentation, I started fiddling around with it for a demo and was pleasantly surprised by the results. You’ve got to see this!
What is it?
The Tone Block is a compact, second-order resonant RLC filter with adjustable frequency and resonance, giving you the flexibility to shape the guitar pickup’s character on the fly.
Support My Channel
I’m rebooting my YouTube channel—this is my first post in years. I originally used it just to share videos on my blog, but this time, I decided to upload directly to YouTube first.
Please support Cycfi Research by subscribing and clicking the bell icon for notifications. I plan to create long-form videos on topics I’m passionate about, including multichannel guitar, infinite multichannel sustain, DSP (especially pitch detection), full-frequency response pickups, and tone shaping. Your support means the world to me!

Been experimenting a lot with parallel capacitors to tune the resonant peak of passive pickup systems to drastically change their character in order to get as close as I can to what I need for variety and versatility. Using an Inductor as well sounds like the trick to tweak Q in real time as well. I’m also interested in going with an active output to keep the cable and cable length from affecting the resonant peak as much as it does on passive guitar electronics. Do you have an active system with your low-Z pickups so that I can wire one of my guitars to be super versatile, yet not impacted so much by amplifier input impedance and cable capacitance? 🤔
Yes. See the preamp here: https://www.cycfi.com/xr-spectra/
